On Tuesday morning, heavy rain in Mumbai caused traffic jams and flooding, disrupting normal life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the city.

Impact on Education

The University of Mumbai postponed all exams scheduled for July 9, with new dates to be announced soon. Schools across several districts, including Pune and Raigad, were instructed to remain closed on July 9. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also declared a holiday for all schools in Mumbai.

Transportation

The Harbour line track of the Mumbai Suburban Railway was operational by 4:30 AM on Tuesday after the water receded. Both fast and slow locals on the Main Line are running 2-3 minutes behind schedule, while Harbour Line locals are almost on time.

Safety Measures

Pune District Collector Suhas Diwase announced that all schools up to class 12 will remain closed on Tuesday to avoid any untoward incidents. School staff have been instructed to report to school to assist with disaster management efforts. Citizens are urged to exercise caution, avoid tourist activities at waterfalls, and venture out only if necessary.

Weather Forecast

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in Mumbai until July 12. Heavy to moderate rainfall is also expected in various other districts up to July 12.
