In an exciting start to the Ultimate Table Tennis 2024, Harmeet Desai and Yangzi Liu played crucial roles in helping Athlead Goa Challengers defeat Jaipur Patriots at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
Men’s Singles
Harmeet Desai secured the first point of the tournament, racing to a 5-0 lead and winning the first game 11-2. However, Cho Seungmin of Jaipur Patriots fought back, winning the next two games 11-1 and 2-1.
Women’s Singles
Yangzi Liu turned the tide for Goa Challengers by defeating Suthasini Sawettabut 3-0, putting her team in the lead.
Mixed Doubles
Harmeet and Liu teamed up for the Mixed Doubles, showing great coordination to win the first game 11-1. Although Suthasini and Ronit Bhanja recovered in the second game, Harmeet and Liu clinched the match in the deciding game.
Men’s Singles
In the fourth match, Mihai Bobocica of Goa Challengers came from behind to defeat Ronit Bhanja 2-1, extending their lead.
Women’s Singles
The final match saw Yashaswini Ghorpade face Nithyashree Mani, with Mani winning 2-1 and claiming the first Golden Point of the tournament.
Next, debutants Ahmedabad SG Pipers will play against Puneri Paltan Table Tennis, followed by PBG Bengaluru Smashers against Chennai Lions.
