Security Measures to Be Enhanced

The Ministry has written to the heads of Central Government hospitals, including AIIMS and other institutes, urging them to enhance security measures. The letter highlighted the need for a balance between accessibility and security, noting that government hospitals are more accessible to the public, which can pose security risks.

Key Security Actions

The letter outlined several actions to be taken:

  • Installation of high-resolution CCTV cameras at strategic locations.
  • Setting up control rooms with admin staff and security personnel for quick response.
  • Employment of well-trained security guards for monitoring and patrolling.
  • Strict monitoring of entry and exit points to allow only authorized personnel.
  • Issuance of identification badges for staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Mandatory display of ID cards by hospital staff while on duty.
  • Training hospital staff to recognize and respond to security threats.
  • Allowing only one or two attendants per patient with an attendant pass.
  • Ensuring adequate lighting in dark spots and duty areas, especially for female staff.
  • Coordinating with local police and emergency services for a coordinated response.

CBI Investigation

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues its investigation into the rape and murder of the trainee doctor. The CBI has received permission to conduct a polygraph test on the arrested accused.
