1.915 Kilograms of Gold Seized

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai has successfully intercepted a gold smuggling operation. In two separate incidents, a total of 1.915 kilograms of gold, valued at approximately Rs 1.39 crore, was seized.

First Incident: Airport Staff Involved

AIU officers discovered that international transit passengers were handing over smuggled gold to airport staff. A contractual staff member was caught with 24KT gold dust hidden in their clothing. The gold weighed 1,323 grams gross and 1,260 grams net, valued at Rs 91.51 lakh. The gold was concealed in socks and tied around the waist. The staff member was arrested under the Customs Act of 1962.

Second Incident: Passenger from Dubai

In another case, a passenger arriving from Dubai was found with 24KT gold dust in wax form, hidden in their body cavity. This gold weighed 688 grams gross and 655 grams net, valued at Rs 47.57 lakh. Further investigations are ongoing.
