Glenn Phillips Praises Angelo Perera and Matheesha Pathirana After Colombo Strikers’ Match
In a recent Lanka Premier League (LPL) match, the Colombo Strikers faced off against the Dambulla Sixers. Despite a strong performance, the Strikers lost the match. New Zealand star Glenn Phillips, who plays for the Strikers, praised his teammates Angelo Perera and Matheesha Pathirana for their efforts.
Match Highlights
Phillips scored 52 runs, Perera made 41, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz added 36, bringing the Strikers to a total of 185/6 in their 20 overs. However, Dambulla Sixers chased down the total with eight wickets and 13 balls to spare, thanks to half-centuries from Kusal Perera (80) and Reeza Hendricks (54).
Player Performances
After the game, Phillips commented on the team’s performance, saying, “Today’s wicket was rather good. Angelo Perera did a fantastic job of giving us a flying start. But I also want to say that even though we ultimately lost, Matheesha was excellent and the way he bowled in the final over helped us out.”
Phillips also noted the importance of teamwork, adding, “I think the way the other boys batted around me helped. For me, it is about facing every bowl as it comes down. It greatly eased the task of keeping the runs going.”
Matheesha Pathirana, who bowled a crucial final over, shared his strategy for future matches: “My plan is bowling dot balls as my team also supported the same in the over. I will try and employ it even better in the coming days.”
He also mentioned the support from Strikers Captain Thisara Perera, saying, “We just plan to execute our plans and also our captain has given good advice for us young bowlers. The plan is to stick with the same.”
League Standings
The Colombo Strikers are currently in third place out of five teams in the LPL, with two wins and two losses, giving them a total of four points. They face tough competition from teams like the Kandy Falcons, Galle Guardians, and Kandy Kings.
