Addressing Global Conflicts

Speaking at the 18th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business 2024, Scholz warned that a successful Russian invasion of Ukraine could have serious consequences beyond Europe, affecting global security and prosperity. He also highlighted ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the Korean Peninsula, and the South and East China Seas.

Strengthening Germany-India Relations

Chancellor Scholz stressed the need for stronger bilateral relations between Germany and India, particularly in defense, trade, and clean energy. He stated, “We need more cooperation, not less,” and highlighted India’s role as the world’s largest democracy and fastest-growing major economy.

Meetings and Discussions

Scholz and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the conference in New Delhi. The German Chancellor is in India for the 7th Intergovernmental Consultations, a biannual meeting involving ministers from both countries. Scholz expressed gratitude for the warm welcome he received in New Delhi and emphasized the importance of friendship and alliances between India and Germany.

This visit marks Scholz’s third trip to India since becoming Chancellor in 2021, following previous visits in February and September 2023.
