Floods in Assam: 91 Lives Lost, Thousands Affected, and Wildlife Impacted

The flood situation in Assam has claimed 91 lives across the state, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). The Brahmaputra River and its tributaries are flowing above danger levels, affecting 21 districts including Cachar, Nalbari, Kamrup, and Golaghat.

Over 12.33 lakh people are still affected by the floods, with Dhubri being the worst-hit district. A total of 2,406 villages and 32,924.32 hectares of crop area are underwater. More than 2.95 lakh people are taking shelter in 316 relief camps.

The floods have also impacted wildlife in Kaziranga National Park, where 180 animals, including 10 rhinos, have died. Park authorities and the forest department have rescued 135 animals, including two rhino calves and two elephant calves. Thirty-five forest camps in the park are still submerged.

While the situation is improving slightly, many areas remain underwater, and efforts to provide relief and rescue continue.
