Fireworks Incident at Kerala’s Anjootambalam Veerarkavu Temple
154 Injured, Eight in Critical Condition
In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, a fireworks accident at the Anjootambalam Veerarkavu Temple in Kasaragod district during the Kaliyattam festival left 154 people injured. Eight of them are in critical condition and receiving intensive care, as stated by P Rajeev, Kerala’s Minister for Industries, Coir, and Law.
Minister Rajeev assured that the state government will cover all medical expenses for the injured and ensure they receive proper treatment. He emphasized that investigations are ongoing to prevent such incidents in the future.
Investigation and Legal Action
Kasaragod MP Rajmohan Unnithan highlighted the significance of the Theyyam festival, which begins at the Veerarkavu Temple. Following the incident, the Kasaragod District Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cause of the accident.
A case has been registered against eight members of the temple committee for conducting fireworks without permission and violating safety guidelines. The FIR indicates that negligence during the fireworks display led to the fire.
