The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in Pakistan held a heated debate on the increasing incidents of terrorism and insecurity, especially in the merged tribal districts. Arbab Usman Khan from the Awami National Party initiated the discussion, highlighting the surge in terrorism-related incidents. Both Treasury and opposition members urged the formation of a committee to address the situation.

Arbab Usman Khan emphasized the lack of state control in the tribal districts and called for a multi-party meeting to reassure residents. Ahmad Kareem Kundi from the Pakistan People’s Party noted that insecurity was widespread, affecting areas from South Waziristan to Chitral. He stressed that development projects are futile without ensuring safety.

Ali Hadi from Kurram district reported frequent civilian killings, with no accountability for the perpetrators. Mohammad Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister’s special assistant, stated that the region has suffered due to poor decisions and called for a strategy to combat militancy.

The assembly also passed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Establishment of District Development Advisory Committee (Amendment) Bill, 2024, allowing National Assembly members to lead these committees, despite opposition from some members.
