Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Honors Mahatma Gandhi in Mexico

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Mexico City by laying flowers at Polanco, Basque de Chapultepec. A Mexican artist performed Gandhi’s favorite song, ‘Vaishnav Jan toh’.

Strengthening India-Mexico Relations

Sitharaman visited Mexico from October 17 to 20 to meet with political and business leaders in Guadalajara and Mexico City. She encouraged Mexican investors to explore opportunities in India’s Global In-House Capability Centers, aircraft and ship leasing, and foreign university setups at GIFT-IFSC.

India-Mexico Trade and Investment Summit

The Finance Minister participated in the India-Mexico Trade and Investment Summit, aiming to boost trade and investment between the two countries. She urged private sector leaders to enhance partnerships in pharmaceuticals, MedTech, and digital innovation.

Sitharaman highlighted India’s strengths in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and automotive sectors, recalling the elevation of India-Mexico relations to a ‘Strategic Partnership’ during Prime Minister Modi’s 2016 visit.

Memorandum of Understanding

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between CII and CCE to increase business interactions and Mexico’s sourcing of pharmaceuticals and medical devices from India. The summit, organized by the Trade and Commerce Council of India, CII, and the Indian Embassy in Mexico, attracted over 250 business leaders and investors.
