Faizul Rahman Arrested in Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tahrir Case by NIA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Faizul Rahman, a key figure in the Tamil Nadu Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT) case, from Chennai. Rahman, who held a leadership position in the HuT organization in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, is the seventh person to be arrested in this case. The case involves a conspiracy led by Hameed Hussain and others to promote anti-India sentiments and secessionism.

According to the NIA, Rahman was actively involved with other accused individuals in spreading secessionist ideas and seeking military support from Pakistan to ‘liberate’ Kashmir. The ultimate goal of the conspiracy was to establish a Khilafat by overthrowing the Indian government through violent means. The accused used social media to spread their propaganda and campaigned against voting, labeling it as ‘un-Islamic’ according to HuT ideology.

The NIA’s investigation revealed that the accused were disseminating HuT’s violent ideology through secret communication channels and meetings across Tamil Nadu. The NIA took over the case from Chennai City police in July 2024 and continues its investigation.

Earlier, on June 30, the NIA arrested two individuals, Abdul Rehman and Mujibur Rehman, from Thanjavur District after searches in multiple locations. These individuals were involved in radicalizing youth and promoting extremist ideologies against democracy and the Indian Constitution.
