Mauritius Foreign Minister Maneesh Gobin also shared his thoughts on X, stating, “Delighted to welcome @DrSJaishankar to Mauritius. His visit highlights the strong and enduring partnership between our nations. Together, we continue to strengthen our ties and explore new avenues of cooperation.”
During his visit, Jaishankar will meet with Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and other senior ministers. This visit comes about a month after PM Jugnauth visited India for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. It is one of Jaishankar’s first bilateral engagements following his re-appointment in the Modi-led government.
Previously, Jaishankar visited Mauritius in February 2021. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to comprehensively review various aspects of their bilateral relationship.
India and Mauritius share close and longstanding relations due to historical, demographic, and cultural reasons. A significant factor in their special ties is that nearly 70% of Mauritius’ population of 1.2 million people are of Indian origin.
