The Hockey India League Player Auction for the 2024/25 season began with a bang in New Delhi, as eight franchises competed to secure top players from the Indian Men’s Hockey team. Key players like Mandeep Singh, Manpreet Singh, and Amit Rohidas attracted significant bids.

Top Bids and Acquisitions

Mandeep Singh and Manpreet Singh both joined Team Gonasika, with Mandeep fetching 25 lakh and Manpreet 42 lakh. Amit Rohidas was acquired by Tamil Nadu Dragons for 48 lakh. Gurjant Singh was the first player sold, going to Soorma Hockey Club for 19 lakh. The highlight of the auction was Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh, who became the most expensive player at 78 lakh, also joining Soorma Hockey Club.

Other Notable Players

Abhishek was the second-most expensive player, joining Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers for 72 lakh. Hardik Singh went to UP Rudras for 70 lakh. Jugraj Singh and Sumit were also notable acquisitions, sold for 48 lakh and 46 lakh, respectively. Overseas goalkeepers like Ireland’s David Harte and Germany’s Jean-Paul Danneberg were also in demand.

The auction will continue over three days, with the men’s auction on 13th and 14th October, followed by the women’s auction on 15th October. Each team will form a 24-player squad, including 16 Indian players and 8 foreign players.
