Engineer Rashid to File Case Against Sajad Lone Over Jail Allegations in Delhi Court
Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 18: Engineer Rashid, President of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), announced on Tuesday that he will file an application against Sajad Gani Lone in a Delhi court. This comes after People’s Conference President Sajad Lone alleged that Rashid was not in jail for the past two months.
Rashid, who is currently out on bail until October 2, responded to these allegations by stating, “I am going to file an application against him (Sajad Lone) in Delhi court that he has said all this about me… How is it possible? Answering this question is like reducing my stature…”
He further added, “If his allegations are found to be true, then action would be taken against the jail officials, and if not, then action would be taken against him (Sajad Lone).”
Upcoming Assembly Elections
The first phase of the three-phase assembly elections in the Union Territory will be held on September 18. A total of 24 Assembly constituencies across the Union Territory will go to polls in the first phase. The second phase will be held on September 25 and the third on October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.
There are 47 assembly seats in Kashmir and 43 in Jammu, with seven seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and nine seats reserved for Scheduled Tribes (STs). Assembly polls are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after nearly ten years. According to the Election Commission of India, Jammu and Kashmir has 88.06 lakh eligible electors.
In the previous Assembly elections, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 28 seats, the BJP secured 25, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) won 15, and the Congress won 12.
