ED Investigates MUDA Money Laundering Case in Karnataka

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched an investigation into a money laundering case linked to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) in Karnataka. On Monday, the ED conducted searches at multiple locations in Mangalore, Bengaluru, Mandya, and Mysuru. These searches targeted the premises of a builder and other private individuals.

Background of the Investigation

The investigation follows the recent summoning of six employees associated with MUDA for questioning. These employees have been asked to provide documents related to the case at the ED’s zonal office in Bengaluru. The focus is on uncovering evidence linked to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and several officials associated with him.

Details of the Allegations

The case stems from a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the state Lokayukta, which names Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his wife B.M. Parvathi, brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy, and Devaraju. The report alleges that Swamy purchased land later gifted to Parvathi. The ED has invoked the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to facilitate the investigation.

Chief Minister’s Response

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has denied the allegations, describing them as political persecution. Despite demands from the BJP for his resignation, Siddaramaiah, supported by his party leaders, has stated that he will not step down.
