External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with the fifth batch of Disarmament and International Security Fellows in Delhi. He emphasized the importance of this initiative in sharing India's perspectives on the rapidly changing global security landscape.
Jaishankar highlighted that the program serves as a tool to promote understanding of India's approach to international security, which is undergoing significant changes. He expressed confidence that the exercise would enhance comprehension of India's thinking.
The program, organized by the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division and the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, runs from January 13 to January 31. It includes 34 participants from 33 countries. The fellowship aims to equip participants with knowledge on disarmament, non-proliferation, arms control, and international security affairs.
Participants engage in talks, presentations, and simulation exercises on topics like global security, weapons of mass destruction, and space security. They also visit facilities of the Department of Atomic Energy and the Indian Space Research Organisation to learn about India's civil nuclear and space programs.
This initiative aligns with the UNGA Resolution on disarmament education and the UN Secretary General's Agenda for Disarmament. India is the only country besides the UN to conduct such a fellowship program.
