Dubai Municipality has made significant strides in enhancing the city's green spaces by planting 216,500 new trees in 2024, a 17% increase from the previous year. This effort is part of the Urban Environment pillar under the 'Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033'.
Expanding Green Spaces
The emirate's green areas have grown by 391.5 hectares, marking a 57% increase from 2023. The Municipality also planted 5.3 million seedlings of flowers and ornamental plants, replacing 45 million seasonal flowers throughout the year.
Beautification Projects
165 beautification projects were implemented under the Dubai Green Project, enhancing green spaces in residential and urban areas, roads, parks, and recreational facilities. These initiatives aim to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors.
Commitment to Sustainability
Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the commitment to sustainability and aesthetic appeal through innovative urban planning. The projects aim to balance modern agricultural practices with Dubai's unique character.
Key Landscaping Projects
Landscaping efforts targeted key roads and intersections, including Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, as well as residential areas like Al Mizhar and Al Barsha. A diverse range of trees, including indigenous and ornamental species, were planted.
Advanced Agricultural Technologies
Dubai Municipality has integrated advanced agricultural technologies, developing a sustainable irrigation system using recycled water. This approach reduces water consumption and preserves environmental resources.
Warsan Nursery's Contribution
In 2024, Warsan Nursery produced 48.13 million seedlings, supporting the expansion of Dubai's green spaces. Nearly 98% of this production was allocated to the Municipality's greening projects.
Since 2011, green spaces under the Municipality's supervision have doubled, exceeding 52 million square metres by the end of 2024.
