Dubai's Ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the Vice President and Prime Minister, has introduced a new law to create the Al Maktoum Archives. This public institution will document and preserve the cultural heritage of Dubai's rulers and the Al Maktoum family. The Archives will be managed by the Al Maktoum Archives Corporation, linked to The Executive Office of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The Archives will serve as a comprehensive collection of the Ruler's biography, collections, and literary works, showcasing his role in transforming Dubai into a global cultural and commercial hub. It will also highlight the contributions of Dubai's rulers to the emirate's development and the founding of the UAE through publications and media.
The Corporation will develop strategies to preserve this heritage, document oral histories, and conduct research on the lives of Dubai's rulers and the Al Maktoum family. A digital archive will be created to protect these records, and national expertise in archiving will be developed.
Collaboration with various organizations will enhance cultural awareness of Dubai's history. The Archives will safeguard historical documents, and all entities in Dubai must register such documents with the Archives within a year. Unregistered documents will become the Corporation's property, and disposal of documents without approval is prohibited.
