In a recent interview, Dr. Divyakirti highlighted the unique measures taken to ensure safety. He mentioned that a divisional head rank officer was appointed 1.5 years ago to oversee building safety. Additionally, a WhatsApp group was created in January 2023 to monitor 16 safety points daily, such as ensuring fire exits are clear and doors are open.
Tragic Incident
This commitment comes in the wake of a tragic incident where three UPSC students lost their lives after drowning in a flooded basement library in Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar. Dr. Divyakirti emphasized that all Drishti IAS branches, whether in Delhi or outside, have at least two exit gates. He stated, “We do not take such buildings on rent which do not have fire exits.”
Challenges in Indore
Dr. Divyakirti also shared the challenges faced in launching a coaching center in Indore. It took 1.5 extra years to find a building that met the safety standards, specifically one with two exit gates. He explained that the delay was necessary to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Basement Classes
Addressing concerns about classes being held in basements, Dr. Divyakirti acknowledged the resentment but pointed out that many essential services, like the Delhi metro and shopping complexes, operate successfully in basements because they are built properly.
