Diplomats from 15 Countries Visit Jammu and Kashmir to Observe Voting Process
A high-level delegation of senior diplomats from various countries arrived at different polling booths in Budgam and Srinagar on Wednesday to witness the polling process in Jammu and Kashmir.
Countries Represented
The Ministry of External Affairs invited diplomats from 15 countries, including the United States, Mexico, Guyana, South Korea, Somalia, Panama, Singapore, Nigeria, Spain, South Africa, Norway, Tanzania, Rwanda, Algeria, and the Philippines.
Diplomats’ Impressions
The diplomats interacted with voters and expressed their joy at seeing a large turnout. South African diplomat Lara Swart said, “It is the first time that I am visiting Jammu and Kashmir. It is really a privilege to be invited by the Ministry of External Affairs to come and visit the polling stations.”
A Rwandan diplomat commented on the smooth organization of the voting process, while a Norwegian diplomat emphasized the importance of visiting different states and talking to people.
Deo, a Tanzanian diplomat, was impressed by the concept of the pink polling station, which is managed entirely by women to encourage female participation in the electoral process.
A diplomat from Singapore noted the similarities between India’s and Singapore’s electoral processes and thanked the Ministry of External Affairs for organizing the trip.
Lim Sang Woo from the South Korean Embassy found the experience very impressive and highlighted the vibrant enthusiasm of the voters.
Voting Details
The second phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir began at 7 am on Wednesday. Over 25 lakh eligible voters will decide the fate of 239 candidates across 26 constituencies in six districts. The final phase of polls will be held on October 1, and the counting of votes will take place on October 8.
