Devotees Celebrate Shivratri at Gauri Shankar Temple in Delhi
On August 2, devotees gathered at the Gauri Shankar Temple in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk to celebrate Shivratri during the holy month of Sawan. They performed rituals like Jalabhishekam and offered items such as curd, milk, and flowers to the Shiva Linga.
Similar celebrations took place at Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple in Haridwar. Sawan Shivratri is a major Hindu festival that marks the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This sacred month, typically falling between July and August, is a period of worship, fasting, and pilgrimage dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories due to the Kanwar Yatra, a pilgrimage where participants collect water from a river and carry it to Lord Shiva shrines. The Kanwar Yatra, which started on July 22, will end on August 2 on Shivratri. The NH-58 Dehradun-Delhi highway was closed from July 29 to August 2 to accommodate the increasing crowd of Kanwariyas.
