Devendra Fadnavis Criticizes MVA for Alleged Agreement with Ulema Council in Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, which is preparing for elections, BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has criticized the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. He accused them of agreeing to demands from the Ulema Council, a Muslim clerical group. Fadnavis claimed that the MVA accepted 17 demands from the council, including dismissing cases against the Muslim community related to riots from 2012 to 2024.
Fadnavis questioned the political motives behind such agreements, emphasizing the need for religious unity. He referenced a slogan by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, “Batenge tho Katenge,” to highlight the importance of staying united. Fadnavis described the situation as a “Dharma Yudh” or righteous battle, stressing the principle of “Yato Dharmastato Jayah”—where there is truth, there is victory.
He accused the MVA, which includes Congress, of using caste and religious divisions for political gain. Fadnavis warned that Congress’s policies could divide the OBC community and affect reservations for SC/ST groups. He argued that such divisions weaken the collective influence of these communities.
When asked about the Chief Ministerial candidate if the Mahayuti alliance wins, Fadnavis stated that there is no plan yet. The decision will be made collectively by the parties involved after the election results.
