Delhi University Announces First Round of Undergraduate Admissions
On August 16, Delhi University revealed the first round of seat allocations for undergraduate programs. Over 97,000 candidates have been offered seats, even though the total number of seats available is around 71,600. The university has decided to allocate extra seats to ensure optimal filling and to start the academic session on August 29, 2024.
Details of the Allocation
The university has allocated seats based on a unique Common Rank. In this first round, 97,387 allocations have been made, excluding performance-based programs and supernumerary quotas like CW, ECA, Sports, Ward, and Christian candidates. Candidates must submit their fees by August 21.
Application and Preferences
This year, 2,45,287 candidates applied for Phase-I of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS(UG)), and 1,85,543 completed Phase-II by submitting their preferences. The university received a total of 1,72,18,187 preferences.
New Features and Tie-Breaking Rules
The university has added a new feature on the dashboard for candidates to see details of cutoffs and ranks. The Common Rank is determined by tie-breaking rules, which have been revised this year. The rules prioritize candidates based on their Class 12th marks and other criteria.
Extra Allocations and Reservations
To ensure maximum seat occupancy, DU has admitted 20% extra students under General, OBC, and EWS categories, and 30% extra under SC/ST/PwBD categories. However, in colleges with a withdrawal rate below 5%, the extra allocation for SC/ST and PwBD categories will be reduced to 15% to prevent overcrowding.
