Delhi police have arrested seven people, including an SUV driver, in connection with the deaths of three students due to basement flooding at a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar. The driver was identified through CCTV footage and arrested for negligence.

Details of the Incident

DCP (Central) M Harshvardhan stated that the SUV driver was arrested based on a widely shared video showing him driving at high speed past the coaching institute, damaging its gate. The flow of water towards the institute increased after the vehicle passed, leading to the flooding.

Victims and Arrests

The deceased students were Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalwin from Kerala. The coaching centre owner and coordinator were also arrested and charged with culpable homicide, among other charges.

Actions Taken

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed the basements of 13 coaching centres in Karol Bagh for violating building bye-laws. Mayor Shelly Oberoi has directed strict action against coaching centres operating illegally in basements.
