Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj Alleges Corruption in Drain Desilting After Tragic Flooding Incident

Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj has raised serious allegations of corruption and negligence against officials responsible for desilting drains in Delhi. He claims that this negligence led to severe waterlogging and the tragic deaths of three students in a coaching center.

Allegations of Corruption

Bharadwaj stated that despite providing evidence and complaining about corruption in the desilting process, no action was taken by LG VK Saxena. He pointed out that the work of removing silt from drains and sewers was not done properly due to the negligence of officers from various departments, including the Public Works Department (PWD), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the Irrigation and Flood Control Department.

Call for Third-Party Audit

During a meeting on June 28, Bharadwaj shared photos and videos of drains that had not been desilted and questioned the status of a third-party audit. He directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to conduct an audit of the desilting claims and submit a list of drains that had been desilted only on paper.

Tragic Incident

The allegations come in the wake of a tragic incident where three students died following flooding in a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar. The victims were identified as Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nivin Dalwin from Kerala. The Delhi Police have arrested the owner and coordinator of the coaching center.

Conclusion

Bharadwaj’s allegations have raised concerns about the accountability of various departments in Delhi. He emphasized that only LG VK Saxena has the authority to take action against the negligent officers.
