Delhi Minister Atishi Urges Action on Overflowing Sewers and Waterlogging Issues
Delhi Minister Atishi has written a letter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to address the issue of overflowing sewers in Delhi. During her visit to Uttam Nagar, she directed the Chief Secretary to ensure adequate deployment of manpower and machinery to prevent sewer overflows.
Atishi noted that the number of workers and machines for sewer maintenance has significantly decreased from last year. She emphasized the importance of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and warned that the city could face a major public health crisis if the DJB fails to function properly due to financial constraints.
Atishi urged the Chief Secretary to release sufficient funds to the DJB within 48 hours and called for strong action against those responsible for the financial issues.
Additionally, Atishi wrote to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw about severe waterlogging under the Zakhira underpass, attributing it to the lack of proper drainage from the Indian Railways’ area.
