The Delhi High Court has recently discharged Uday Pal Singh, who was convicted of defaming judges on social media platforms, after he offered an unconditional apology. The court also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Singh.

The division bench of justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain accepted Singh’s apology and discharged him from the contempt proceedings. The bench noted that Singh was unable to estimate the outcome of the video he uploaded on August 24, 2022.

Singh expressed his willingness to deposit Rs one lakh for welfare purposes to compensate for the public time wasted in the proceedings. The bench directed him to deposit the amount within two weeks with the Registry of the Court. The money will be distributed as follows:
