Delhi CM Atishi Marlena Challenges Defamation Case Summons by BJP Leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena has challenged a summoning order in a defamation case. Special Court Judge Vishal Gogne issued a notice to BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor regarding his defamation complaint against her. The case is scheduled for a hearing on October 7.
Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta, along with advocates Shailendra Singh and Mudit Jain, represented Atishi. The Rouse Avenue Court had issued the summons to Atishi on May 28, and she was granted bail on July 23 after appearing in court.
Kapoor’s complaint followed Atishi’s claims that the BJP approached her to join their party through a close aide, threatening her with arrest by the Enforcement Directorate if she refused. Kapoor’s legal notice called her statements false and defamatory, demanding an apology and retraction.
Atishi accused the BJP-led Centre of using probe agencies to threaten her and other AAP leaders, including Raghav Chadha and Saurabh Bharadwaj, ahead of the general elections. She vowed to continue working under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal to improve people’s lives.
