Court Reviews Charges in UPSC Aspirants’ Drowning Case
On October 15, the Rouse Avenue court in New Delhi scheduled a hearing for October 29 to consider charges filed by the CBI against six individuals involved in the drowning of three UPSC aspirants at a coaching center in Old Rajender Nagar. The accused include CEO Abhishek Gupta, Deshpal Singh, and co-owners Sarabjit Singh, Parvinder Singh, Tejinder Singh, and Harvinder Singh. They face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Advocate Abhijit Anand, representing the father of one of the victims, argued that the CBI’s investigation was incomplete, lacking details on corruption and building plan sanctions. The CBI stated that the investigation into corruption is ongoing and that there is sufficient evidence against the accused.
The court learned that the basement, where the incident occurred, was not approved for commercial use. Despite this, it was rented out for a coaching center, and a complaint had been filed about potential flooding. The CBI highlighted that the basement was used commercially, with 12 AC units and 19 fans installed.
Interim bail was previously granted to the accused by the Delhi High Court and Tis Hazari Court. The case was transferred to the CBI for further investigation.
