Court Delays Hearing in Delhi Excise Policy Case Involving Manish Sisodia and K Kavitha

The Rouse Avenue court in New Delhi has postponed the hearing of arguments by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding charges in the Delhi Excise policy case to July 22. Manish Sisodia and other accused appeared via video conferencing. Special judge Kaveri Baweja deferred the hearing after submissions by Advocate Nitesh Rana.

Advocate DP Singh, Special Public Prosecutor for CBI, stated that he is ready to argue on the charge sheets already acknowledged by the court. On July 12, the court had deferred the cognizance of a supplementary charge sheet filed against K Kavitha to July 22 at the request of her counsels. Her bail plea is also scheduled for hearing on the same day. K Kavitha has moved a plea seeking default bail, arguing that the charge sheet filed against her is defective. She is in judicial custody until July 18.

Earlier, the Rouse Avenue court deferred hearing on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha’s plea seeking default bail in the Delhi Excise policy case. Special judge Kaveri Baweja listed the matter for further hearing on July 22. The court had issued a notice to the CBI on K Kavitha’s plea. Advocate Nitesh Rana, representing K Kavitha, submitted that the charge sheet was defective and that the CBI failed to file a complete charge sheet within the mandatory period of 60 days. He argued that Kavitha should be granted default bail and interim bail during the pendency of the present bail application.
