New Delhi [India], September 27: Countries like Chile, Canada, and Malaysia are showing interest in importing India’s Vande Bharat trains. These trains are attractive to external buyers for several reasons, including cost-effectiveness. While similar trains from other countries cost between Rs 160-180 crores, Vande Bharat trains are priced at Rs 120-130 crores.

Vande Bharat trains also excel in speed, taking just 52 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kmph, faster than Japan’s bullet train, which takes 54 seconds. Additionally, these trains are better designed, with significantly less noise and lower energy consumption.

Indian Railways is rapidly expanding its track network. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnav stated that over the last ten years, more than 31,000 kilometers of tracks have been added, with a goal to add 40,000 more kilometers. The bullet train project is also progressing quickly.

To address safety concerns, Indian Railways is installing the indigenous automatic train protection system, Kavach, across 40,000 kilometers of the network and in 10,000 locomotives. Kavach is expected to reduce accidents by 80% by eliminating human errors. The system has already been commissioned in several regions, including Mathura-Palwal and Kota-Sawai Madhopur.

Minister Vaishnav also highlighted various safety measures, including 97,602 inspections, 90,000 signal plan verifications, and 2,500 kilometers of track renewal. Ultrasound tests have been conducted on 1.86 lakh kilometers of track and 11.66 lakh welds. Additionally, 20 new Phased Array Ultrasound machines have been introduced for testing welds, and 990 railway bridges have been rehabilitated.

Other improvements include the construction of 304 flyovers and underpasses, installation of 5,300 fog safety devices, and quality checks on track fittings. The hardship and risk allowance for trackmen has also been increased by 25%, from Rs 2,700 to Rs 3,375 per month.
