In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress party has officially extended its support to the National Conference to form the government. This decision was made during a Congress Legislature Party meeting, where the party’s central leadership was authorized to elect the CLP leader. The National Conference-Congress alliance emerged victorious in the assembly polls, securing 48 seats, with the National Conference leading the charge as Congress won only six seats.

Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief, Tariq Hameed Karra, stated that the party has no demands and will collaborate with the National Conference to discuss governance models. He emphasized that the alliance’s spirit transcends mere numbers and ministerial positions, highlighting their varied opposition to the BJP.

The Congress’s letter of support enables the National Conference to claim the formation of the government, marking the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 and the state’s bifurcation into two union territories.

Omar Abdullah, elected as the Leader of the National Conference, expressed the need for the new government to pass a resolution and initiate talks with the union government to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. He also stressed the importance of working harmoniously with the Lieutenant Governor for the people’s benefit.
