Congress Announces Second List of Candidates for Maharashtra Elections
The Congress party has unveiled its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections. This announcement follows the release of the first list of 48 candidates. The elections are set for November 20, with results to be declared on November 23.
Key Candidates Announced
The list includes Rajesh Tukaram Manvatkar for Bhusawal-SC, Swati Sandip Wakekar for Jalgaon (Jamod), and Mahesh Gangane for Akot. Other notable candidates are Shekhar Pramodbabu Shende from Wardha, Anuja Sunil Kedar from Savner, and Girish Krushnarao Pandav from Nagpur South.
Additional candidates include Suresh Yadavrao Bhoyar from Kamthi, Puja Ganesh Thavkar from Bhandara SC, and Dalip Waman Bansod from Arjuni-Morgaon-SC. The party has also fielded Rajkumar Lotuji Puram from Amgaon-ST and Vasant Chinduji Purke from Ralegaon.
Seat-Sharing Arrangement
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar), has agreed on a seat-sharing formula. Each party will contest 85 seats out of the 255 constituencies. The remaining 23 seats will be distributed based on the candidate lists.
Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut confirmed the arrangement, emphasizing the unity among the alliance partners.
Previous Election Results
In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena secured 56, and Congress obtained 44. In 2014, the BJP had 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42.
