Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Criticizes BJP Over Farm Laws and Farmer Protests

New Delhi, India – Congress President and Rajya Sabha MP Mallikarjun Kharge launched a strong attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding recent statements from its leader on farm bills. Kharge accused the ‘anti-farmer BJP’ of not realizing their ‘grave crime’ even after the martyrdom of 750 farmers.

Kharge’s remarks came after BJP Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, suggested that the three farm laws, which were repealed after prolonged farmer protests, should be brought back. Ranaut stated, “I know this statement could be controversial, but the three farm laws should be brought back. Farmers themselves should demand it.”

Kharge further criticized the BJP, stating that the 62 crore farmers of the country will never forget the Indian government’s actions during the protests. He mentioned the use of vehicles, barbed wire, tear gas from drones, nails, and guns against farmers.

He warned the BJP that farmers from Haryana and other electoral states would give a ‘befitting reply’ in the upcoming assembly polls. Voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5, with votes counted on October 8 along with those in Jammu and Kashmir.

Kharge also accused the Modi government of breaking promises made to farmers, including doubling their income by 2022, implementing input cost + 50% MSP as per the Swaminathan Report, and giving MSP a legal status. He criticized the government for not providing relief to the families of martyred farmers and for continuing their character assassination.

Meanwhile, the BJP distanced itself from Kangana Ranaut’s remarks, stating that she is “not authorized” to make such statements on the party’s behalf. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia clarified that her remarks are a “personal statement” and do not reflect the party’s view on farm bills.
