Congress Leader Sandeep Dikshit Criticizes BJP and AAP Over Tragic Drowning Incident in Delhi

New Delhi, India – August 3: Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit called the deaths of a woman and her son who drowned in an open drain in East Delhi following heavy rains ‘unfortunate’. He criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for not caring about the people of Delhi.

Protests and Blame Game

Dikshit visited the site in Mayur Vihar Phase 3 where locals were protesting the deaths. He stated, ‘The incident is very unfortunate… The two parties (BJP and AAP) are busy leveling allegations against each other. They don’t care about the public of Delhi… The elected government and officials should learn something from this incident… AAP only cares about winning elections, they don’t care about the public of Delhi.’

Earlier, AAP staged a protest outside the LG Secretariat Office, demanding the resignation of LG Vinai Kumar Saxena. AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta said, ‘A mother and her child died after falling into a DDA drain, DDA is completely under LG. The LG and DDA are responsible for the death of mother and son.’

Calls for Resignation

AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar also demanded action against the guilty officers of the DDA and called for the LG’s resignation. ‘Today we have come to protest outside the LG’s Secretariat because due to the negligence of LG’s DDA, a mother and son died after falling into a drain. As soon as DDA’s name came up in this incident, LG and BJP ran away. LG sahab, take action against the guilty officers of DDA and resign yourself,’ Kumar stated.

LG’s Response

On Friday, the LG Secretariat claimed that the drain in which the drowning incident took place belonged to the MCD under the control of AAP. ‘The 1000-metre drain was neither de-silted nor covered,’ the statement said. This came after Delhi Environment Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai criticized the Centre and called for action against the DDA workers.

Rai said, ‘It is unfortunate that BJP workers stay silent when a woman and her child die after falling into a DDA drain. Have the BJP leaders stopped protesting now? Have they gone blind?’
