Congress Raises Concerns Over Haryana Election Results
In New Delhi, Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda, along with other party members, met with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to discuss issues related to the Haryana Assembly election. The Congress delegation reported discrepancies with some electronic voting machines (EVMs) and requested that these machines be sealed and secured during the investigation.
Complaints and Concerns
Bhupinder Hooda expressed that the Congress party received numerous complaints about delayed vote counting. He noted that the ECI has assured them that all complaints will be investigated. Hooda described the election results as ‘surprising’ and questioned the EVMs’ role, as Congress was leading during the postal ballot count but fell behind when EVMs were counted.
Delegation Meeting
The Congress delegation included leaders such as KC Venugopal, Ashok Gehlot, and Jairam Ramesh. They informed the ECI about 20 complaints from various constituencies, with seven being written complaints from Karnal, Hodal, Panipat City, Kalka, Rewari, Narnaul, and Kalanwali. Pawan Khera, another Congress leader, stated that the ECI promised to address these issues after consulting with returning officers.
The Congress party plans to submit additional complaints from 13 more constituencies within 48 hours. They also reminded the ECI of similar complaints from Chhattisgarh.
