The campaigning for the second phase of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir ended on Sunday. Political parties held busy campaigns to support their candidates.

Congress Campaign

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the party’s seven guarantees for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. These include health insurance, economic empowerment, and education reforms. He shared these promises in a post on X, emphasizing a brighter future for the region.

  • Health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh per family
  • Monthly transfers of Rs 3,000 to women heads of households
  • Free loans up to Rs 5 lakh for self-help groups
  • Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits
  • Protection of OBCs
  • Filling one lakh vacant government jobs
  • 11 kg of foodgrains per family member

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal stated that the Congress and its alliance partner, National Conference, aim to place the people of Jammu and Kashmir at the center of their policymaking.

BJP Campaign

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah held rallies criticizing the National Conference-Congress alliance. Rajnath Singh emphasized peaceful relations with neighbors, including Pakistan, but stressed that dialogue depends on Pakistan halting terrorist activities.

Amit Shah reiterated that Article 370 would not be reinstated and criticized the National Conference’s stance on the issue. He highlighted the positive changes in Jammu and Kashmir since the abolition of Article 370.

Polling Dates

The second phase of polling will be held on September 25, with the third phase on October 5. The first phase was held on September 18, and votes will be counted on October 8, along with Haryana assembly polls.
