Congress and Allies Discuss Seat Sharing for Jharkhand Elections
In Ranchi, Jharkhand, Congress leader Lal Kishore Nath Shahdeo announced that the party is in discussions with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) regarding seat sharing for the upcoming elections. Shahdeo mentioned that although time is limited, the main preparations are complete. A state Congress meeting is scheduled for October 18, where the candidate list will be finalized and sent to the CEC committee. The candidates are expected to be announced between October 20 and 22. However, a formal meeting on seat sharing has not yet occurred.
Tejashwi Yadav, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD leader, expressed the INDIA alliance’s goal to win all elections and defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand. He stated that the number of seats RJD will contest will be clarified soon.
The Election Commission has scheduled Jharkhand’s assembly polls in two phases on November 13 and 20, with Maharashtra voting in a single phase on November 20. Vote counting will occur on November 23. Jharkhand has 2.60 crore eligible voters, including 1.31 crore males and 1.29 crore females, with 11.84 lakh first-time voters and 66.84 lakh young voters. Nomination deadlines are October 25 and 29, with scrutiny on October 28 and 30, and withdrawal deadlines on October 30 and November 1.
