Beijing, China - The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) of China has announced an investigation into claims made in a YouTube video about China's efforts to politically influence young Taiwanese. The video, released by Taiwanese rapper Chen Po-yuan and YouTuber "Pa Chiung," discusses China's "united front" tactics. This is the second video on the topic released this month.
In the video, Chen visits the Taiwan Youth Entrepreneurship Park in Quanzhou, Fujian Province, and the Strait Herald news platform in Xiamen, China. Lin Jingdong, Assistant Director of Strait Herald and a member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), explains strategies to influence young Taiwanese. These include "incubating" them through Taiwan-related organizations and collaborating with small-scale influencers.
Lin Jingdong suggests that Chen consider aligning with the New Party or the China Unification Promotion Party for political aspirations. For "organized" votes, he should align with the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT). Lin Jincheng, head of the entrepreneurship park, mentions that Chen could apply for a Chinese ID card within a month, allowing him to register a company and start a business in China.
With a Chinese ID card, Chen could acquire property and vehicles in China without a down payment and use them as collateral for bank loans. The video claims that about 2,000 Taiwanese in Xiamen have Chinese ID cards, with 4,000 more applying for household registration. Over 100,000 Taiwanese already possess Chinese ID cards, with 200,000 applicants in total.
The video also highlights that some young Taiwanese entrepreneurs overborrow from banks, sharing the money with intermediaries and CCP officials before transferring it back to Taiwan.
The MAC warns that the CCP offers benefits to Taiwanese under the guise of "cross-strait exchange" to divide the nation and undermine its stability. According to Article 9 of the Act Governing the Relations Between the People of Taiwan and the Mainland Area, Taiwanese citizens cannot have household registrations or hold passports from the Mainland Area. Violators risk losing their Taiwanese citizenship and rights.
The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) is a government agency in Taiwan that deals with issues related to China. It helps manage the relationship between Taiwan and China, especially in political and economic matters.
