China Reaffirms Stance on Taiwan Amid US Naval Transit
Beijing has reiterated its position on Taiwan following the passage of two US ships through the Taiwan Strait. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun emphasized that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and opposed any challenges to China's sovereignty under the guise of freedom of navigation. Guo stated, "The Taiwan question has nothing to do with freedom of navigation but bears on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
On February 10, two US naval vessels sailed through the Taiwan Strait, as reported by Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND). The MND assured that the situation remained normal with full control over the surrounding sea and airspace.
Meanwhile, Taiwan detected six sorties of People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, eight People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels, and one official ship around the island. Four aircraft crossed the median line into Taiwan's northern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). Taiwan monitored and responded to these activities.
China has increased its amphibious assault capabilities with new naval equipment, including an advanced landing helicopter assault vessel and floating bridge docks. The Taiwan-China conflict remains a longstanding issue, with Taiwan functioning as a de facto independent state, while China views it as a breakaway province under the "One China" policy.
