Chief Justice of India Visits Bhutan
From October 7 to 10, Chief Justice of India Dr. Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud visited Bhutan to meet with the Chief Justice of Bhutan, Lyonpo Chogyal Dago Rigdzin. They discussed enhancing judicial cooperation between the two countries.
Signing of Memoranda of Understanding
During the visit, four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to boost legal collaboration. These included agreements between the Supreme Courts of India and Bhutan, the National Judicial Academy in Bhopal and Bhutan National Legal Institute, the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru and the JSW School of Law, and between the Indian Council of Arbitration and the Bhutan Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre.

On October 8, CJI Chandrachud attended the Third Convocation Ceremony of the Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law, where he delivered a commencement address. Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck presided over the event. On October 9, he was the Keynote Speaker at the Distinguished Speakers’ Forum 2024 at the Royal University of Bhutan.
During his visit, CJI Chandrachud met with the King of Bhutan and Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay to discuss the special ties between India and Bhutan. He also continued discussions with Princess Wangchuck, following her visit to India in August 2023.
