Chandipura Virus Outbreak in Gujarat
14 Cases and 6 Deaths Reported
In Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district, 14 people are suspected to have contracted the Chandipura virus. Raj Sutariya, the District Health Officer, confirmed that 6 of these individuals have died, and 7 are receiving treatment at Himmatnagar Hospital.
The National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune confirmed the first fatality, a four-year-old girl. In the past 24 hours, five more children were suspected of having the virus in Himmatnagar, where 6 children are currently under treatment.
Other districts in Gujarat, including Aravalli and Kheda, have also reported cases and deaths. Neighboring Rajasthan has reported one death. Twelve samples have been sent to NIV for further testing.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with Health Minister Rishikesh Patel and other officials, reviewed the situation and discussed measures to control the outbreak in a video conference with district health officers and municipal commissioners.
