Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express Derails in Gonda
3 Dead, 30 Injured in Train Accident
The Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express train derailed near Gonda station in Uttar Pradesh, causing a tragic accident. The derailment happened between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations at around 2:37 pm on Thursday.
As a result, three passengers lost their lives, and around 30 others were injured. Several coaches from the front of the train went off the tracks.
Immediate Response
Upon receiving the news, medical teams and senior officials from the Lucknow division of North Eastern Railway rushed to the site to assist with rescue operations. The injured passengers were quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Chief Minister’s Statement
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow over the incident. He stated that rescue and relief operations are being conducted on a priority basis and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. He also directed officials to expedite the relief work.
Compensation Announced
The Ministry of Railways has announced financial compensation for the victims: Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for those with serious injuries, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries.
Investigations Underway
A high-level inquiry, in addition to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry, has been ordered to investigate the cause of the derailment.
