Central Railway Reports Big Drop in Train Derailments in 2023-24
Central Railway has announced a significant reduction in train derailments. In 2023-24, the average number of derailments per day has dropped to 0.24, compared to 1.2 per day from 2004 to 2014.
From 2004 to 2014, there were approximately 445 derailments each year, with 171 on the main line and 274 in the yards. In 2023-24, this number has decreased to 89 derailments, with 40 on the main line and 49 in the yards.
So far in 2024, there have been 43 derailments, with 20 on the main line and 23 in various yards, maintaining the average of 0.24 per day.
Central Railway emphasized that the goal is to achieve zero accidents each year, and efforts are being made to reach this target. Despite these efforts, there have been recent malicious attacks targeting Indian Railways, undermining the hard work of its 12 lakh strong workforce and dedicated members.
