CCPA Tells Companies Like Reliance Retail and LG to Inform Customers About Warranty Start Date
The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has directed electronic appliance companies to inform customers about the starting point of the warranty period. This move aims to ensure global practices are followed in India.
Meeting with Major Companies
In a meeting attended by Reliance Retail, LG, Panasonic, Haier, Croma, and Bosch, Nidhi Khare, Chief Commissioner of CCPA, emphasized the importance of clearly informing customers about warranty details after purchasing a product. She also stressed the need for companies to address consumer grievances related to the warranty period promptly.
Global Best Practices
CCPA directed the companies to follow global best practices and to address consumer grievances proactively. The companies were requested to send their views within 15 days.
Warranty Start Date Discussion
During the meeting, the feasibility of using the installation date as the starting point for the warranty period was discussed. Measures to prevent abuse of this mechanism and to safeguard consumer interests were also considered.
Consumer Rights
The industry was reminded of consumers’ rights to know about the quality, quantity, potency, purity, standard, and price of goods, as per Section 2(9) of the Consumer Protection Act.
