Canadian Prime Minister Accuses Indian Government of Threatening Acts
In Ottawa, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has accused agents of the Indian government of engaging in secretive information-gathering and coercive behavior targeting Canadians. Trudeau cited evidence from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that suggests Indian officials are involved in activities threatening public safety, including murder.
Diplomatic Tensions Rise
Trudeau stated that Canadian law enforcement has tried to collaborate with Indian counterparts but faced repeated refusals. As a result, Canadian officials met with Indian representatives to share evidence implicating six Indian agents in criminal activities. Despite these efforts, India has not cooperated.
RCMP’s Allegations
RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme reported that investigations have linked Indian diplomats in Canada to clandestine activities, including gathering information for the Indian government. The RCMP has also identified threats to the South Asian community, particularly those involved in the pro-Khalistan movement.
India’s Response
In response, India expelled six Canadian diplomats and rejected Canada’s claims as baseless. India accused the Trudeau government of supporting extremism and violence against India. The diplomatic rift follows Trudeau’s previous allegations of India’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which India has denied.
