BUITEMS Staff Protest for Unpaid Salaries and Against Corruption in Quetta

Quetta, Pakistan – Hundreds of employees from the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) gathered to protest against the university administration. They demanded the payment of salaries that have been overdue for several months.

The protest was led by the BUITEMS Staff Association president, Sohail Anwar, and other leaders. They marched through Airport Road and gathered at Markhor Chowk, where they criticized the administration for being ‘callous and cruel’ in withholding their salaries.

In a post on X, the BUITEMS Staff Association highlighted their demands, which included the payment of overdue salaries, prevention of corruption within the institution, restoration of student scholarships, and the removal of the corrupt registrar.

The protesters also called out the administration for issues related to house requisition, medical policy, non-payment of bonuses, suspension of study leave, and halting of promotions. They demanded a 10-year financial and performance audit of the administration and the immediate removal of the registrar, who is under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Balochistan.

Fifteen protesters were issued show-cause notices by the administration for their participation in the protest. This protest followed a similar demonstration on August 11, where the BUITEMS Staff Association also protested against non-payment of salaries and corruption.

In a related event, specially-abled citizens in Lahore organized a protest outside the Lahore Press Club on August 18, demanding a rise in salaries and regularization of specially-abled government employees, citing that their compensation does not match the rising inflation in Pakistan.
