BSF and DRI Seize Gold Worth Rs 6.86 Crore in West Bengal
In a significant operation, the vigilant jawans of the 68 Battalion stationed in Nadia district under BSF, South Bengal Frontier, along with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Kolkata, arrested seven smugglers in four consecutive search operations at Seemanagar on State Highway No 11 in Nadia district, West Bengal.

- Gold worth Rs 6,86,23,582
- 16 gold bricks and a gold biscuit weighing 9.572 kg
- Cash worth Rs 11,58,500
- A car used in gold delivery
The operation took place on July 4, following information shared by DRI about gold smuggling. The joint team conducted a comprehensive search of vehicles on State Highway No. 11, leading to the arrest of two smugglers with 4.8 kg of gold from a suspicious car. Subsequently, four more smugglers were detained with 4.82 kg of gold. Another operation in Ramnagar village of Karimpur led to the arrest of a person with a gold biscuit and illegal cash.
The main smuggler, identified as Rafiq Mandal (name changed), a resident of Teypur in District Nadia, admitted to being involved in gold smuggling for a long time. He was previously arrested in 2022 with 16 gold biscuits. The other couriers, identified as Lal, Ravi, Pradeep, Dawood, Seemanto, and Bittu (all names changed), revealed they transported gold from Karimpur to Dum Dum Railway Station for a fee.
All arrested individuals and seized items have been handed over to DRI, Kolkata for further legal action.
