Yadadri Bhuvanagiri (Telangana) [India], August 22: BRS MLA T Harish Rao criticized the Congress government in Telangana for not fulfilling their promise to waive off farmers’ loans. He stated that the Congress, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, had promised to waive loans of Rs 2 lakhs per farmer before the Assembly elections but failed to do so.

Rao mentioned that the Congress promised to waive loans by December 9th and later by August 15th, but neither deadline was met. He accused the Congress of misleading farmers to gain votes during the elections.

The Congress had pledged a complete loan waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh per acre for farmers in their ‘Warangal Rythu Declaration’. However, after coming to power, the waiver was split into three instalments, causing dissatisfaction among farmers.

On Thursday, BRS held protests across Mandal and Constituency centres, demanding an unconditional loan waiver for all farmers. BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) stated that while the Chief Minister claims loans have been waived, ministers are giving contradictory statements, leading to confusion.

KTR highlighted that only Rs 18,000 crores have been spent out of the Rs 40,000 crores required for the loan waiver. He criticized the Congress leadership for not supporting distressed farmers and demanded an immediate announcement of a loan waiver of up to Rs 2 lakh for every farmer.
