BRS Leader K Kavitha’s Bail Hearing Deferred in Delhi Excise Policy Case

The Rouse Avenue court in New Delhi has postponed the hearing on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha’s plea for default bail in the Delhi Excise policy case. The hearing is now scheduled for July 22.

Background

K Kavitha, represented by Advocate Nitesh Rana, argued that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to file a complete charge sheet within the mandatory 60-day period. Kavitha’s previous regular bail applications were dismissed by both the trial court and the High Court.

She was arrested by the CBI on April 11 and by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15. The CBI filed a charge sheet against her on June 6, which is pending for cognizance on July 15. This is the third supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI in this case.

Recent Developments

On July 8, the Rouse Avenue court reserved its order on the cognizance of the CBI’s charge sheet. Special judge Kaveri Baweja will pronounce the order on July 15. CBI’s Special Public Prosecutor DP Singh stated that the offence’s cognizance has already been taken and that Kavitha influenced the policy and led key figures in the case.

DP Singh also mentioned that several individuals, including TDP MP Magunta S Reddy and his son Raghav Magunta, have provided statements against Kavitha.
